Two outstanding musicians at the peak of their powers will be playing a stunning programme of Schubert, Beethoven, Schumann, Chopin, Grieg and Debussy.
Two musicians who have played across the world with more awards than you can shake a stick at, and are currently tutoring at the Chethams School of Music, Manchester.

SCHUBERT: Arpeggione Sonata for cello and piano in A minor I. Allegro Moderator
BEETHOVEN: Seven Variations on the duet ‘Bei Männern, welche Liebe fühlen’ from Mozart Opera Magic Flute, WoO 46 for cello and piano
SCHUMANN: Langsam from Five Pieces in Folk Style, Op. 102, for cello and piano
CHOPIN: Nocturne in Db, op. 27, no. 2 for solo piano

Most of these string quartet pieces were composed within the space of 10 years (roughly between 1769 and 1777) by composers who knew at first hand the cutting edge musical developments across Europe.
The Earl of Kelly travelled to Mannheim before returning to Edinburgh;
Johann Schetky was born in Darmstadt, toured in Europe, and finally setttled in Edinburgh;
Maddalena Lombardini was born in Venice, was taught the violin by Tartini in Padua, then performed in Turin, Paris, London;
The two quartets by Mozart that we are playing were composed in Milan.
These Classical quartets will be interspersed with three modern pieces which are like lenses through which to look back on this snapshot of musical history.

Jonathan started learning the piano at the age of three.
From the age of 11 onwards, he studied at Wells CathedralSchool, and then moved on to the joint music course of the RNCM and Manchester University.
He achieved a first class degree from both institutions plus the PPRNCM diploma in solo piano, and has since attained postgraduate-level diplomas in accompaniment and chamber music, latterly studying with John Wilson.
During his time at college, he was to win many prizes as an accompanist, plus the RNCM's two major chamber music prizes with his trio, and its annual Beethoven competition as a solo pianist. This latter success qualified him to enter the Intercollegiate Beethoven Piano Competition in London, at which he won the Audience Prize.
He currently performs regularly as a soloist, as chamber musician with The RyebankTrio, as vocal and instrumental accompanist, and choral/operatic repetiteur, and is a regular competitor in international piano competitions: besides making regular appearances for City of Manchester Opera, Bury Choral Society, Opera Seria, Heritage Opera, the Pennine Spring Music Festival and the Buxton Festival Fringe, where he has three awards and five nominations since 2010. He also works for the musical charities “Music in Hospitals” and “Live Music Now”.

Hello Everybody and welcome to Mike and Jon's Concerts web site.
All concerts take place at the Nordic Church, 138 Park Lane, L1 8HG and are priced
at £20 each *, which includes a welcome glass of wine, a programme and free entry into
our fantastic post-concert raffle **
The Chapel has only 110 seats so book your ticket in advance securely with a credit/debit card through PayPal (you don't need an account to check-out as a guest) or in person at the Violin Workshop in the Bluecoat Art Centre garden. Any remaining tickets will be sold on the door until sold out.
The Nordic Kitchen Cafe is open 30 minutes before the performance and during the interval to purchase tea/coffee and cake.
